Permissions
Change permissions
Secure Digital Storage uses two device permissions: Bluetooth and biometric authentication. You manage both not in the app but in your phone’s settings, and the way there differs between iPhone and Android. Which permissions the app currently has, you can see in the app’s menu under “Permissions”.
On an iPhone
Section titled “On an iPhone”- Open the “Settings” app.
- Tap “Apps” and select Secure Digital Storage. On older iOS versions there is no “Apps” entry; scroll down in Settings to the list of your apps instead.
- Switch “Bluetooth” on or off.
- Face recognition on an iPhone is called Face ID. On iPhones with Face ID, switch “Face ID” on or off there as well. iPhones with a fingerprint sensor (Touch ID) have no per-app switch; the app uses the fingerprint you set up under “Settings” → “Touch ID & Passcode”.
On Android
Section titled “On Android”The settings are named slightly differently depending on the manufacturer, but the way there is similar everywhere.
- Open your phone’s “Settings”.
- Tap “Apps” and select Secure Digital Storage.
- Tap “Permissions”.
- Allow or deny “Nearby devices”. This is the Bluetooth permission. On older Android versions it is called “Location”, because Android handles Bluetooth scanning through the location permission there.
For biometric authentication there is no separate per-app permission on Android. The app uses the fingerprint or face recognition you have set up for your phone under “Settings” → “Security” (or “Security and privacy”). You can add or remove features there.
What to keep in mind
Section titled “What to keep in mind”Without Bluetooth the app still opens doors over the internet, just without the parallel second route that makes opening faster and more reliable. For the reason, see Why does the app need Bluetooth?.
A code, a pattern or a biometric feature must remain set up on your phone, otherwise the app cannot be used. For what the app uses fingerprint or face recognition for, see What is biometric authentication used for?.
