What is biometric authentication used for?

With Secure Digital Storage, your phone becomes the key to your storage unit, and that is where your valuables are. The app therefore requires your phone to be protected, and in certain situations it additionally checks that it really is you opening a door.

Your phone must be locked with a code, a pattern or a biometric feature, that is, fingerprint or face recognition. If it is not, the app asks you to set up a device lock before you can use it. Without that protection, a lost phone would be a key that anyone can use.

In certain cases you confirm opening a door with fingerprint, face recognition or your device code, for example when you open a door remotely and are not in the building yourself. Which doors this applies to is decided by your provider. The check takes only a moment and uses the method you have set up on your phone; on an iPhone that is Face ID or Touch ID.

The check happens on your phone. The app only learns whether it succeeded; your biometric data never leaves your device.

You manage fingerprint and face recognition at any time in your device settings. For how to do this, see Change permissions.
